Help with Renamable.
Converting
Nothing happened when I renamed a file.
Check three things: the file is in a watched folder (Desktop, Downloads, or one you added), you renamed it in Finder, and Renamable can convert between those two types (see Formats). If it can’t, the old name comes back, with a button to keep the new one.
My PDF looks different in Word.
You get the text, headings and lists, but not the exact page layout. It works best on PDFs that are mostly text.
Finder asks “Are you sure you want to change the extension?”
That’s Finder’s own question. Renamable offers to turn it off when you first open it. To change it later, open Renamable’s settings: General ▸ Ask before changing an extension.
Undo
How do I undo a conversion?
Click Undo in the message at the top of the screen, or rename the file back. You can also undo from Activity in the app. The original comes back from the Trash.
Where does the original file go?
To the Trash, so you can get it back. To keep it next to the new file instead, change The original file in General.
Settings and folders
How do I open Renamable’s settings?
Renamable runs in the background. Open it again from your Applications folder to see its window and settings.
How do I watch another folder?
Open Renamable, go to Folders and click Add Folder… to pick one. Folders inside it count too. External drives also need Full Disk Access, which you can turn on there.
Which Macs does it work on?
Any Mac with macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
How do I quit or uninstall it?
Open Renamable and press Command-Q. To uninstall, quit it and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Finder’s warning stays off after Renamable is gone, so if you turned it off, turn it back on in General first.
